USDKit, A fast, lightweight, standalone USD viewer.

I clicked on Maya, waited years, Blender froze, I shed some tears. Houdini’s great, but damn the load— Each USD, a heavy load.

So I built it, clean and tight, No more plugins late at night. No more stacktraced tangled hell— USDKIT, it just works well.

They sold us dreams in flashy lights, Unreal, Unity—hyped delights. But loading scenes feels like a curse, This ain’t no heaven, it’s the worst.

So I built it, light and fast, No more waiting, that’s the past. Standalone, no strings to pull— USDKIT, it keeps things cool.

Pixels here, collisions there, Install fights I couldn’t bear. Rocket science ain’t my thing, I just want my files to sing.

Now I view them in a flash, No more hacks or system clash. Tired of bloat? Then join the ride— USDKIT, I'm on its side.

USDKit is a super simple USD viewer.

You might ask, “What’s the point?” After all, there are already tools to view USD files. But most are slow, heavy, expensive — or require you to build them yourself. Using a license just to look at a file is overkill — not to mention having to install the Pixar USD libraries and manage all the dependencies, which is a major hurdle on its own.

USDKit changes that. It’s completely standalone, lightweight, and self-sufficient. No setup. No dependencies. Just open it and go.

Check out the first video introducing USDKit — a short walkthrough of what it does and why it exists.

We don’t know exactly where we’re going — but we’re going.

When you're building something new, you can't start with a framework that boxes you in. You need freedom. Space to explore. Space to change your mind.

USDKit is built with that same mindset. We’re not following a strict plan — we’re following curiosity, pain points, and the community’s needs.

This is just the beginning. And wherever this goes, we're building it together.

What USDKit supports today

Open .usd / .usdc (binary) files
Mesh objects
Scenes with hierarchical transforms
Maya-style navigation
